The purpose
of the Occupational Therapy Assistant Program at Panola College
is to offer a specialized health care curriculum designed
to meet the needs of the people within its service area.
It is our desire to graduate knowledgeable students who will
provide occupational therapy services to their community with
commitment and caring.
The OTA Program is located in
the W.C. Smith Health Science Center across the street from
the main Panola College campus and is operated under the guidance
of the American Occupational Therapy Association. The program
consists of five academic semesters and two, eight-week Level
II fieldwork experiences that must be completed within 18
months following completion of academic courses. The curriculum
ensures a balance of theoretical and technical courses as
well as supervised application of skills in area health care
facilities. Upon successful completion of the program, the
student is awarded an Associate of Applied Science degree.
The instructors of the OTA program
believe that students learn best by doing. We employ this
idea by engaging our students in an array of hands on learning,
community service experiences. Each summer, OTA students participate
in a day camp for children with special needs.
